dc.description.abstractIn the ever-evolving landscape of digital communication, social media platforms have become vital elements in the way humans interact, share information, and even shape public opinion. Twitter, in particular, has been the subject of extensive academic inquiry given its widespread influence on various facets of modern society. Based on an extended literature review the evolving role of Twitter in business and society from its inception to its current state and anticipated future within the context of the Metaverse has been explored. Initially, the review examines historical studies that underscore Twitter's profound influence on communication, notably in information sharing, social activism, political expression, and its pivotal role in marketing and advertising. As we transition to recent studies, there is an emphasis on how Twitter has morphed into a crucial platform for news dissemination, fostering community building, gauging public sentiment, and playing a significant role in crisis communication and emergency response. The review culminates with an exploration of the Metaverse, shedding light on its concept and the potential interplay between Twitter and this emergent virtual universe. Collectively, this synthesis underscores the multifaceted role of Twitter, reaffirming its continued significance in the contemporary digital age and projecting its potential implications in the forthcoming Metaverse era.en
