Abstract: Emotional intelligence plays an important role in effective leadership. This paper aims to understand the role of emotional intelligence and how emotional intelligence is linked to the exercise of leadership. Definitions as well as a detailed description of the concepts of leadership and emotional intelligence have been provided. The purpose of this research is to investigate the forms of leadership adopted by managers and supervisors of hospitals in Western Macedonia. In addition, the factors of emotional intelligence (well-being, self-control, emotionality and sociability) and the forms of leadership (transformational leadership, transactional leadership and avoidance leadership) were examined. The research sample consists of 100 managers and supervisors of hospitals in Western Macedonia. The questionnaires used to conduct the research were based on the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire-M.L.Q Form 6S and the Wong and Law Emotional intelligence Scale (WLEIS), and the results were analyzed using SPSS22. The results show that leaders with emotional intelligence influence leadership style. Furthermore, it was found that changes in emotional intelligence affect leadership traits. It was observed that emotional intelligence affects leadership variability. The majority of the sample adopts and pursues transactional and transformational leadership, which are considered the most effective types of leadership, while almost no leadership to avoid. At the same time, the majority of the sample showed that they possess high emotional intelligence.
