International Law provides a framework within which all nations should operate with regards to the education of their citizens and residents. This paper examines the compliance of the United States with international law and norms regarding education policy and practice. This paper focuses specifically on access to education, which is arguably the most important issue that allows a free and equal society. Educational equity is generally recognized as a vital commonality on an international level– which is why it is addressed in many international conventions and treaties. Furthermore, this paper specifically explores to what extent the United States measures up to international standards on educational rights; as the United States, although not signatory to many international treaties regarding education, generally considers itself to be the standard-bearer for upholding human and civil rights.en
