Latin America is a region that consists of a large number of seemingly similar countries. Europe, on its part, is a region where every country is seemingly distant from one another. Yet, Europe has been able to carry on a successful European project (the European Union), whereas every regional cooperation project in Latin America has been more or less of a failure. This thesis explores the reasons for why a functioning Latin American Union has not yet been created, and what are the prospects of such a project to one day succeed.el
