Abstract: The aim of this thesis is to explore the importance of internationalization of online shops and to investigate business opportunities arising from this. Furthermore, to develop and introduce tools and practices in strategy, technology and internet marketing that are needed to assure increased chances of success. Each country has specific features associated with the business environment, the penetration of e-commerce and the internet in general as well as specific cultural and social characteristics. These peculiarities require specific internationalization strategies for entering the local market and dictate parallel adjustments in IT infrastructure as well as a suitable e-marketing plan that needs to be followed. The thesis attempts to create a set of best practices in these areas that are applicable to the majority of e-commerce businesses, regardless of their activity sector, their physical location and size.
