The purpose of this thesis is a literary review on the role of the banking systems in the financial crisis that happened in Russia and Turkey in 1998 and 2001. The majority of the literature shows that the banking sectors in both countries had a large and similar role in the developments of the financial instabilities of both countries that led to the crises.
