Abstract: Small states as part of the international system present an interesting case because of the contribution that may have in it. The international system is complicated and the increase of the number of small states after the end of the Cold War, intensifies this complexity. One of the small states is also Greece, although was not created after Cold War. Greece is attempting to establish its role in the Balkans‘ fragile environment as stability and security factor. One way is by participating in international organizations and contributing to the ongoing operations. Greece has participated and still does in numerous operations mostly under UN and NATO command and the operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo are examples for this. These two operations are of the most long lasting in which Greece played an important role. In the future there might be a need for this kind of operations outside of Greece‘s territory and being prepared for this is a must.
