Abstract: | Previous research has highlighted various underlying processes and boundary conditions through which perceived overqualification (POQ) is related to intention to leave. However, limited research has focused on work-related boredom as a mediator in this relationship. Even more, little is known about the effect of perceived high performance work systems (HPWS) in the overqualification literature. The current study attempts to address these gaps by developing and testing a moderated mediation model that encompasses the aforementioned constructs. Data were collected from 188 employees in a Greek manufacturing company. Results demonstrated that work-related boredom mediates the relationship between POQ and intention to leave. Additionally, perceived HPWS attenuate the effects of POQ on intention to leave directly and indirectly via work-related boredom. Finally, theoretical and practical implications of these results as well as directions for future research were discussed. |
