dc.description.abstract | The aim of this research was to analyze i) what characteristics make a supervisor ii) what characteristics affect supervisor versus non-supervisor wages and iii) what was the effect of crisis. The examination is based on Greek Labor Force Survey micro-data to study the period 2006-2016 -a period that starts before the great recession and ends in the last year of the recession. I use cross sectional analysis on the pooled sample by a “naïve” and a corrected for selection econometric model. By both models expected characteristics like education and experience increase wages and access to supervisory jobs while working in a small firm, contracts with less hours of work and discrimination based on gender and race characteristics have the opposite effect. I find differential crisis wage adjustments in magnitude and timing of supervisor and non-supervisor wages. The decrease in the probability of holding a supervisory job during crisis indicates that the crisis caused delayering in Greek workplaces. | en |
