Abstract: This paper analyzes the participation of the Hellenic military forces in Peacekeeping operations in the Southeastern Europe and the Middle East. This Dissertation is structured in 4 chapters. The 1st chapter provides some important information concerning the peacekeeping doctrine; it is also referred to some basic principles as well as the procedures and the policy that regulate the UN PKOs. In addition, it explains the decision process that precedes the deployment of a peacekeeping operation and in the end it introduces the concept and evolution of use of Force. In order to understand the development of UN peacekeeping, a historical overview is outlined in Chapter 2 which provides an inside look into how the applicable norms became principles of peacekeeping. Apart from the United Nations, the African Union, the European Union and the NATO conduct peacekeeping operations not only by themselves but also in close cooperation among them; this is described extensively in Chapter 3. The 4th and last chapter discusses the Greek participation in peacekeeping operations and particularly is referred to the ongoing activities that Greece is participating in as well as the concluded activities that the country participated in the past.
