Abstract: The purpose of this study is to show the importance of employee engagement in organizations and its contribution to the financial indicators and to investigate the relationship between performance appraisal and employee engagement. Performance appraisal is a human resource function that many organizations undertake. There is a critical perspective on the role performance appraisal and its effectiveness which is depicted in an ongoing debate. What really happens, does it help employees or get them anxious and disappointed? Finally, does it promote employee engagement or not? For that reason, is conducted a research in four corporations which implement performance appraisal. According to the findings of the research organizations conduct performance appraisals in order to reinforce employee engagement, develop their people and help them to become better. Generally, they support that a well-designed performance appraisal system in conjunction with well-trained and raters can be a key to success.
