Abstract: The purpose of this study was the translation in Greek, cultural adaptation, examination of the validity and reliability of the questionnaire Dysphagia in MUltiple Sclerosis (DYMUS) for the assessment of dysphagia in patients with Multiple Sclerosis. The original Italian version was translated and backtranslated as described in international guidelines, cross-culturally adapted and pilot tested. All data were collected prospectively from 108 patients with Multiple Sclerosis. The internal consistency was evaluated using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Construct validity and criterion –related validity was assessed by evaluating differences between the G-EAT-10, the SWAL-QoL-GR, and the self-assessment dysphagia. The questionnaire achieved excellent internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha 0.854 for total, for solids 0.810, for liquids 0.716). With excellent discriminant validity the tool differentiated between the dysphagic and no dysphagic population of MS, discriminated by self assessment and by G-EAT-10. G-DYMUS was furthermore correlated to GEAT- 10 and SWAL-QoL-GR. Conclusion: The translated in Greek G-DYMUS was proved to be a reliable and valid questionnaire for the assessment of dysphagia in Multiple Sclerosis.
