Anastasimatarion is first published in paper form in 1820 in Bucharest by Peter Ephesius, student of the Three Teachers, and it rapidly spreads in the chanting world at the time. This chanting book will later undergo numerous reprints and adaptations, the most important of which is that of John, Lambadarios and subsequently Protopsaltou of the Great Church of Christ. John’s edition with its adaptation will follow an amazing course. Mainly due to its completeness as far as content is concerned, it will become the basic textbook for the instruction of chanting for beginner students till the present day. This is primarily thanks to the Editions of the Theologians Brotherhood «Zoe». The book will be repeatedly published with new typesetting, with certain adjustments in the melos - these were considered necessary according to the publishers for the more accurate rendering of the hymns’ meaning – and a note of the trisema rhythmical units. John notes that he is adapting the work by Peter Lambadarios. In broad lines he follows Peter; influenced however by the prevailing atmosphere of his times, he intervenes with some new technical characteristics. In his attempt to rhythmically render the sense of what is written, he introduces variations of the melodic lines, stressing selected words of the text, without always following the rhythmic or natural stress of the poetic text. In the doxastics he embellishes the melos through the introduction of melodic lines belonging to the slow stihirarion, thus creating a new aesthetics in these particular meli. John creates an interaction of the points of view of Peter Lambadarios and Jacob Protopsaltou. Concerning the teaching of Anastasimatarion, the use of melodic positions of sounds leads to a deeper and more substantial understanding of them and consequently to a more consistent rendering of the melos itself.
