Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the current situation of the contemporary and modern educational applications of lifelong learning provided by the Social and Co-operative Enterprises (SCE). Specifically, our thesis aspires to illustrate the terms and conditions under which lifelong learning has been provided by SCE. At the first part of the thesis, there is the theoretical background of our research with references to conceptual definitions about lifelong learning and the social economy in relation to the severe socio-economic crisis in Greece. Also, we examine the educational opportunities in order to become better acquainted with the subject of social economy and entrepreneurship concerning public, private and cooperative bodies. Subsequently, the close relationship of adult education is analyzed with being co-operative and with the social economy as a prerequisite for social change continuing with the depiction of the ideal profile of the modern social entrepreneur. In the second part, the results of our survey are presented in social cooperative enterprises from Central Macedonia offering lifelong learning services to adults examining and evaluating the inputs and outputs of the educational, vocational or other learning experiences from SCE as well as their contribution to lifelong learning in general. Finally, the thesis concludes by listing proposals for the improvement and development of lifelong learning services provided by SCE.
