dc.description.abstractAs the title indicates, Patterns (1989) is based upon contrasting musical ideas organized within a tight framework. A free slow section alternates with a fast rhythmic one leading to a frenzied ending. Patterns was commissioned by the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts and the Montgomery Performing Arts Company for the opening of the 1989-90 Promenade Concert Series. The premiere took place in Montgomery, Alabama, on September 10, 1989, with the composer performing the violin part.en
