Three Odes from Antigone is derived from the opera Antigone. These three odes were written in this version at the request of the Metropolitan Greek Chorale of New York for a performance at the Florence Gould Hall in New York on June 6, 1993, with Metropolitan Opera soprano Stella Zambalis as the soloist. The piece is bilingual. It employs both the ancient Greek text of Sophocles and the English translation of the play Antigone by the scholars Fitts and Fitzgerald. Permission was granted to the composer for its use.en
