In this study we examine whether moves of workers between sectors, sectoral shifts, influence the level of the unemployment of United Kingdom and its regions. Using as basic variables the proxy for the sectoral shifts and the unemployment rate and applying OLS and panel data methods we can understand in which way these moves affect the unemployment rate. We find that the sectoral shifts have a significant and positive impact on UK regional unemployment.en
