The best time to change a company is when it's successful, but that's also the time when resistance to change is at its highest. Specific business characteristics impose the need for strategic organizational turnaround as well as the need for satisfying business stakeholders within a global market. Change is confusing and often requires a lot of effort while positive results should not be taken for granted. The transformational leadership is better connected with strategic organizational change, since it provides a conceptual framework regarding leadership behaviour and change. The scope of this paper is to examine the basic literature regarding leadership and change management, the basic models of leadership theory and the role of the leader in the change process.en
