Title: Immigration, Immigrants’ political integration and party politics in Greece: a framing analysis
Authors: Seitaj, Eneda
Abstract: The migration phenomenon has been significant in shaping societies all over the
world. It can structure the composition of people who are connected under a social
and political entity. It can stimulate and transform perceptions of national identity
and national community simultaneously, (Howard, 2009). That is why migration and
ethnic diversity have become controversial political issues in modern democratic
states. The growing public antithesis on the issue is also reflected in the positions of
political parties who choose to appoint in the immigration debate under different
strategic considerations.
The present paper aims to investigate how the Greek political system politicizes the
issue of immigration, migrants’ political integration and the way that political
parties’ deal with these issues in competitive terms. More specific, emphasis was
given to the analysis of Greek mainstream parties of New Democracy (ND) and
Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) and their policy stances on the issue in
comparison to niche parties of Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS), Golden Dawn (GD)
and Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA).
The study combines the spatial theory of party competition and its application on
specific issue behavior by employing different approaches to party competition
literature such as cleavage theory and ideology, issue-ownership concept and theory
of rational spatial competition. In doing so, we combined party ideological factors,
rational choice aspects as well as external factors to party system in examining party
behavior.
Based on a frame analysis as our methodological approach and the examination of
party manifestos from 2007 to 2012 the study reveals that party ideology and the
issue-ownership concept regarding niche parties, display stable framing patterns
throughout the examination period. Niche parties and especially far-right parties
managed to establish themselves as issue-owners of the immigration issue while
mainstream parties seemed to adjust their positions to niche ownership over time
and attempt to compete in the electoral arena by following the far-right framing on
the immigration issue. The impact of the radical right Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS)
and the extreme right Golden Dawn (GD), the internal pressures of the party system
and the socio-economic situation of the country (Economic and Refugee crisis) made
ND and PASOK to politicize the immigration issue extensively by adjusting
themselves to far-right agenda.
Summing up, the present paper reveals that the issue of immigration and
immigrants’ political participation consists a contradictory element that has been
exposed to different party motives and changing societal conditions by shaping the
competitive environment of the Greek party system.

Authors: Uwubanmwen, Oduware Juliet
Abstract: The study examines the relationship between corruption and economic growth in Black Sea countries. It uses the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) as the measure of corruption and GDP per capita as the measure of economic growth. The time period covered is from 2003 to 2020 for Black Sea countries. STATA software was used to conduct the linear regression analysis. The results demonstrate the significant negative impact of corruption on GDP per capita across the Black Sea region. It is evident that the effect of corruption on economic growth is direct and occurs without a substantial time delay. The study provides policy recommendations to address corruption and promote economic development in the Black Sea region.

Authors: Δημητροπούλου Ελέζη, Ολυμπία Ραφαέλα Ευγενία
Abstract: This thesis presents the mission and the training of a contemporary diplomat as well as displays,
through a comparative analysis, the differences and commonalities between the Greek and French
Diplomatic Services. Importantly, the present thesis discusses how the diplomatic world has
changed and what implications these changes bring to the training of a diplomat as well as on the
Diplomatic Services. Additionally, it is the first time that an effort was made to compare the
Diplomatic Services of Greece and France in order to see how these two countries approach
Diplomacy, what they consider important, what they pay attention to, and how they adjust their
Services to the challenges of the modern world. The methodology selected for this goal was
extensive research of relevant bibliography, as well as the information provided by both Ministries
at their websites. Based on the information collected, we analyzed at the first section contemporary
issues related to Diplomacy and the training diplomats get and at the second section we compared
the two Diplomatic Services on a) their mission, b) entry requirements, c) their training and d) the
career development. To conclude, it is observed that regardless of the changes and challenges
Diplomacy has faced, the role of the diplomat remains at its core.
