Abstract: The present study investigates the role of the high performance work systems (HPWS) on employees in the Greek hospitality industry. More specifically, it examines how the high performance work systems (HPWS), through the importance of servant leadership style, can generate positive outcomes in work engagement and extra-role behaviour in a sample of Greek hospitality workers. In doing so, ―Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM)‖ was applied based on a convenient sample of 904 hotel employees across ten 5-star Greek hospitality organizations. The results demonstrate the relationship between high performance work systems (HPWS), servant leadership, work engagement and extra-role behaviours. The findings reveals that high performance work systems (HPWS) create a propitious environment for managers‘ servant leadership and its positive effects on work engagement; through these influences, we have more employees‘ extra-role behaviour.
