Title: Hellenic Dance for Violin, Cello and Guitar
Other Titles: Study for Violin, Viola and Cello
Authors: Constantinides, Dinos
Keywords: LRC15c
Issue Date: 1970
Abstract: The piece was initially commissioned by my violist friend Yiannis Vatykiotis who was at that time the violist of the Hellenic Trio. My first work of the piece was done in 1970, using as material Greek modes and rhythms. Actually, it uses at the very beginning very clearly the Phrygian mode. Sometimes moves to other modes, but basically the Phrygian mode is very prominent. The form of the piece clearly A-B-A, in which the B section is slower than the A. The piece keeps fast tempos at the beginning because of its virtuoso, colorful and rhythmic nature. I would say that I did some additional work last year, so for your recording you can say 1970-2006. Your performance is the first of this piece.
